Farrell: Quitting drink was best decision

Colin Farrell has admitted that giving up alcohol was the "best decision" he ever made.

The Irish actor, who had a well-documented battle against drink and drugs, told The Mirror that he had not lost any friends over his decision to change his lifestyle.

"It doesn't bother me watching mates getting drunk when we're out," he said. "But it was the best decision I ever made in my whole life. Now I go home at 1am in instead of four - not that they would notice."

Farrell is currently training for a role in a remake of Total Recall and revealed the gruelling routine he has undertaken to reprise the character originally portrayed by Arnold Schwarzenegger.

"I've got this hairy Croatian boxing coach who tortures me every day because I need big muscles for a movie," he said. "He's killing me with his drills."Source

The Way Back Review

The Way Back is based on the true story of a group of prisoners, whom escape a Russian Gulag in Siberia in the winter of 1940. After their daring escape, the group must cross the dangerous terrain to reach Mongolia, where they will hopefully find freedom from the Communist regime that hunts them. Filling out the cast are Ed Harris (Pollock, A History Of Violence), Colin Farrell (Miami Vice, Phone Booth) and Saoirse Ronan (The Lovely Bones). Director Peter Weir's greatest asset here is his cast. A film like The Way Back will live or die by it's cast and thankfully, all major players bring their A-game to the table. The biggest surprise, performance wise, is Colin Farrell in his portrayal of Valka, a head strong, professional criminal. In the past, Farrell has been accused of butchering foreign accents, but his Russian works perfectly here. Ed Harris also provides a good performance as the mysterious American prisoner amongst the group. Although laughably named Mr. Smith, his character proves to be more than a one dimension cardboard cut out of the Real American Hero. More

Colin Farrell is in...
Colin Farrell digs deep to play one of a handful of men who escaped a Soviet gulag in The Way Back directed by Peter Weir and co-starring Jim Sturgess and Ed Harris. Inspired by true events, The Way Back is an epic tale of survival, recounting the journey a group of men (joined briefly by a young girl, played by Saoirse Ronan) embarked on that took them from Siberia to India. Farrell plays a criminal with Lenin and Stalin tattooed on his chest, a knife never far from his fingers, and an attitude which allowed him to survive among men equally as desperate. Farrell's never lost in the ensemble cast and instead makes this brutal thug a man the audience can actually connect with, no small feat considering the man's violent tendencies and anti-social personality.Source

Colin Farrell Flirted with Kelly Brook

Sunday, December 12, 2010

British model Kelly Brook was left flustered when Colin Farrell began flirting with her - in front of her then-boyfriend.

Colin Farrell embarrassed Kelly Brook with his flirty behaviour.
The 'In Bruges' star left the model-and-actress - who has previously dated rugby star Danny Cipriani, and actors Billy Zane and Jason Statham - flustered when he tried to help her cool off during a dinner.

Kelly recalled: 'I sat across from Colin Farrell at dinner once and I was getting very hot, so he leant across the table and blew me to cool me down.

'It was kind of sexy but also uncomfortable because my boyfriend at the time was sitting right next to me.'

Though she is currently single, Kelly insists she is never shy about asking someone out on a date.

She said: 'Have I ever asked a guy out? I guess I have. I'm not scared - I just get their digits, drop them an email, stalk them. Just joking.'

Kelly recently admitted she enjoys being single as she can be 'selfish' and has more freedom to do what she wants.

She said: 'I'm travelling so much. It's a perfect time to be single and be selfish and do what I want. I'd have done it sooner if I'd known it was this cool.'

Colin Farrell stars in Oscar tipped 'The Way Back'

Colin Farrell will be the major draw in his supporting role giving a performance that is already being touted as the best of his career.

Early Oscars buzz has Ed Harris as a shoe-in for a supporting actor nomination whilst Saoirse Ronan is also being talked of to follow up her nomination for Atonement in 2008.

Director Weir has had six nominations in the past but never won and thoughts are this latest movie will bring yet another shortlisting from the Academy.Source

The Way Back Review

Wednesday, December 8, 2010

Performance-wise, it's difficult to choose a highlight. The whole cast impresses: Sturgess projects the humanity of his character brilliantly without ever over-selling it, Farrell is great in what is very much a supporting role, while Ronan makes a big impact in a short space of time. But it's veteran thespian Ed Harris who sets the pace for the rest of the cast to follow, with his intense performance of an emotionally fractured prisoner. The pain of his past is evident on his face before he ever utters a word.

The Way Back is a well made, brilliantly acted film from an underrated director who mixes the intimate and epic with ease. Its story, however inspiring, just isn't a particularly eventful one.

‘Alexander’ failure almost caused Colin Farrell to quit Hollywood

Thursday, December 2, 2010

Dubliner, and former bad-boy, Colin Farrell, has admitted that he considered quitting his acting career after his movie “Alexander” flopped.

He said that he was so embarrassed that he had played the main role that he was ashamed to show his face in public. He revealed that when the movie was released even when he went out for a packet cigarettes he felt “the need to apologize to the guy behind the counter".

Thankfully the brilliant Martin McDonagh’s “In Bruge” movie was his next project and it was a massive success, which restored his confidence.

Currently there are rumors that Farrell will star in a reboot of the 1990 sci-fi action flick, “Total Recall”. This week Farrell told, British newspaper, the Daily Telegraph, that he is still enthralled with big productions.

He said “I’d like to make big films and small films, mainly because I’m a massive fan of film…The idea of doing an Indiana Jones, or even an Inception – I love the grandiosity, how sweepingly entertaining films can be.”
